Alec's music CDs are all difficult to find: they are either out of print or out of stock. Older films and TV dramas are also very difficult to find new, but recent productions (such as L-O-V-E, Fit Lover, and Re Ai) are fairly easy to buy online or in cities with a local Chinese population and shopping area (Chinatown). For older material, online and local auctions are the best source; items might be new or used, and prices will vary widely. Online Retailers Here is a list of popular online CD/DVD retailers. If the option is available, you can ask to be notified if an out of stock title becomes available again. YesAsia: http://www.yesasia.com Sensasian (Malaysia): http://sensasian.com HK Flix (movies only): http://www.hkflix.com DVDAsian http://www.dvdasian.com The M-Dream web site has a large collection of shopping links here: http://www.m-dream.co.uk/links.html Online Auctions eBay: http://www.ebay.com eBay always has a selection of Alec's music, TV/movie DVDs/VCDs, and other collectables (books, photos, etc.). Condition of items and prices vary widely; some items are very expensive. Depending on where you live, there may be local online auctions. For example, the China and Taiwan auction sites have a large number of items for sale, but the sites are in Chinese and the sellers usually will not sell to foreign buyers or ship overseas. Shopping Online Alec's name can be listed in several different ways with online retailers, including: Alec Su, Su You Peng, Su Youpeng, Alex Su, Alex So, Tommy Su, Tommy So, So Yau Pang, 蘇有朋 (Traditional Chinese), 苏有朋 (Simplified Chinese) You can also search by Chinese, pinyin or English title for movies and TV series. Look through the ASIF "Music," "Dramas," and "Movies" sections for titles, dates, posters, CD covers, etc. Local Shops If you live in (or are visiting) a city with a large Chinese population, try the local shops specializing in Asian entertainment. (In the US and Canada, most of the Chinatowns were settled by people with Cantonese roots, and imports are from Hong Kong more than from Taiwan or Mainland China. But you could get lucky, especially with some of the popular TV dramas.) About Subtitles... Quite a few of Alec's movie DVDs will have English subtitles, especially Hong Kong productions or HK editions of DVDs/VCDs. However, some of the early Taiwanese "art" films, and the 2006 Mainland China film Taklamakan, are not available with English subtitles. Most of the television drama DVDs do NOT have English subtitles. The only exceptions are DVD editions of Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre and The Mischievous Princess produced for export to Malaysia and Singapore. If you are looking for these editions online, read the descriptions carefully! Good hunting! |
